Hosted during Hello Barkada's anniversary month, the second annual Collectively kicks off on Friday, September 1, and continues through Saturday, September 30. Hello Barkada's month-long celebration of artists, writers, and creatives from historically marginalized communities will feature a mix of new and throwback social media content, artist and project spotlights, articles, resources, and virtual and in-person events like:

September 1. Thank you video release, and publication of the September edition of Funding Fridays.

September 4. Video releases of our panel "From Burnout to Brainstorm" presented at WonderCon 2023 and San Diego Comic-Con 2023. The WonderCon 2023 edition features Amanda Meadows, Sandra Equihua, and Elizabeth Ito, and the San Diego Comic-Con 2023 edition features Jamila Rowser, Nidhi Chanani, Victoria Ying, Kiara Valdez, Marco Finnegan, and Amanda Meadows. September 7. Debut of Something More, our new social media content series content series that features exclusive, previously unpublished on-the-record quotes from artists and writers that came from conversations I've had with them, and reveal a little something more about them as a person. First up is comics writer Stephanie Williams!


September 9. Debut of Support Saturdays, a new monthly roundup spotlighting crowdfunding campaigns, calls to action, mutual aid appeals and memberships, and sponsorship opportunities, in support of artists, writers, and art collectives and organizations. Because radical possibilities manifest when we act collectively.


September 10. Reveal of Isang Mahal #2, the 2023 edition of Hello Barkada's zine series.


September 13. New listicle, "The Hip-Hop that Raised Me" postponed to October 2023


September 14. Allowed with cartoonist and multidisciplinary artist Lawrence Lindell. Watch the replay!


September 15. Video release of our panel "The Short of It: Animation is a Medium" presented at San Diego Comic-Con 2023, featuring Pearl Low, Christina Moreland, Elizabeth Ito, and Natasha Kline. September 24, 11:00 a.m.6:00 p.m., Oceanside Zine Fair & Art Show. I had a great time tabling at this year's Oceanside Zine Fair hosted at the Hill Street Country Club and presented by HSCC's Papercuts Zine Club. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the Hello Barkada table, especially those who purchased Hello Barkada zines, buttons, crochet head scarves, amigurumi/crocheted chamipiñones on a chain (aka sleepy mushroom keychains), and amigurumi/crochet Unicorn UbeKitties. Because of their support, Hello Barkada raised enough to donate $35 to the The Nā ‘Aikāne o Maui Cultural Center to help with urgent relief and recovery efforts, and to commission an artist or writer in 2024! Congratulations to The Hill Street Country Club on hosting an excellent event.


September 25. Online publication of a new edition of Hello Barkada Comics by Christina Moreland. Publication postponed to a later date. Thanks for understanding!


September 28. Book video release on Instagram and TikTok of a mini comic by artist John Vasquez Mejias.


September 29. Video release of our panel "Horror, Thriller, or Neither?" presented at WonderCon 2023 featuring Lea Anderson, Malissa White, Reyna Cervantes, Viktor Kerney, and John Jennings. September 30, 12:00–6:30 p.m., Chula Vista Art Fest. Collectively 2023 will conclude with a pop-up shop at this free inaugrual event! I'll be selling zines, Hoy/Tsst buttons, and amigurumi/crochet items, as well as host free community activities. 20% of sales will be donated to the Maui Aloha campaign operated by the Hawai'i People's Fund, with the remainder going towards Hello Barkada's budget to commission artists and writers in 2024, so please come out and support.
