Hello Barkada is an arts & cultural organization that values we on the margins.
Hello Barkada serves historically marginalized communities through digital and traditional media and programming, such as online and print media and virtual and in-person events. We champion, advocate, and provide a platform for people and women of color, LGBTQIA2S+ folx, disabled peoples, and intersectional voices thanks in part to a growing community of Barkada Backers that contribute to our ongoing crowdfund.
Founded in July 2021 and launched in September 2021 by Filipina American storyteller and award-recognized coordinator Christine Pasalo Norland, Hello Barkada is based in San Diego on the unceded territory of the Kumeyaay.
HELP OUR GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION THRIVE
Become a Barkada Backer and join a community of like-minded readers who support independent storytelling for, about, and by us who are and have historically been marginalized. Contributions of $4 are appreciated, as is any amount—large or small—given on a one-time or monthly basis. Proceeds help fund our guest writing series, our comics series, fees associated with hosting our website and programs, and fees associated with our participation in community events. A percentage of proceeds will also be donated to nonprofit organizations supporting the recovery and advancement of BIPOC communities around the world. Contributions are not tax deductible.
Christine can produce website and social media content, manage existing websites and social media accounts, produce and send emails in newsletter platforms, coordinate and promote virtual programs and events, and provide event coordination support for in-person events. Christine also offers editing and proofreading services to artists and writers applying for grants, as well as consulting services for organizers interested in pitching panels to large-scale convention events Hello Barkada has participated in. A portion of income earned from these services helps fund freelance opportunities for artists and writers to contribute to Hello Barkada, and goes towards Hello Barkada's annual overhead costs.
Reopening soon! A percentage of proceeds earned from purchases of Hello Barkada products is contributed to nonprofit organizations supporting the recovery and advancement of BIPOC communities around the world, and the remainder funds the Hello Barkada Comics Series and Guest Writer Series.

This is the Privacy Policy for Hello Barkada, published September 1, 2021.
Hello Barkada is committed to preserving the privacy of its readers and users. This policy outlines the collection, use, and storage of users’ personal information that is submitted at any point on the Hello Barkada website (the “Site”).
CONSENT
By accessing the Site, you consent to the use of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. Except as set forth in this policy, your personal Information will not be used for any other purpose without your consent. We will not sell customer lists or otherwise provide your personal information to third parties for third party marketing purposes. If you no longer wish to receive marketing emails from us, you can click on the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of our marketing emails.
TYPES AND USES OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
To subscribe to the Hello Barkada email newsletter, the registration system requires a valid email address–used to confirm the account and to contact you with information as otherwise provided in this Privacy Policy. If you become a Hello Barkada Ko-Fi Supporter, Ko-Fi.com will collect your name and credit card information for processing via Stripe.com. Accounts may be backed up regularly by those platforms. Separately, when any Hello Barkada administrators are emailed, the addresses and correspondence are retained. This information may be saved to respond to issues and inquiries of all types.
CREDIT CARD INFORMATION
For collecting and processing payments for being a Hello Barkada Ko-Fi patron/supporter, we utilize Service Providers (defined below). Our Service Providers will collect personal information needed to process those payments. Hello Barkada does not store any user credit card information on our own servers.
AGGREGATE DATA COLLECTION
Certain non-personally identifiable information is collected automatically when using the Site. Hello Barkada anonymizes this information and does not connect it to your identity. This data helps us understand broad trends in how people are reading and utilizing our content, in order to better serve our readers. We collect information regarding the actions you take on the Site. For example, each time you use the Site, we automatically collect the type of Web browser you use, your operating system, your Internet Service Provider, your IP address, the pages you view, and the time and duration of your visits to the Site. We use this information to help us understand how people use the Site, and to enhance the services we offer. MAILING LIST
If you submit your email address to be added to our list, we will not share it with anyone outside of Hello Barkada LLC, except as provided in this Privacy Policy. We use email addresses only to send occasional updates on our latest stories and other news about Hello Barkada and its stories that we think our readers might be interested in.
INFORMATION SHARING
Aggregated reading and demographic information about our audience may be shared with third parties, including browser information and traffic statistics. This data is not tied to any individual readers’ accounts or personally identifiable information. From time to time, we may establish a business relationship with other businesses whom we believe trustworthy and who have confirmed that their privacy practices are consistent with ours (“Service Providers”). For example, we may contract with Service Providers to provide certain services, such as hosting and maintenance and data storage and management. We only provide our Service Providers with the information necessary for them to perform these services on our behalf. We may share personal and other information with businesses controlling, controlled by, or under common control with Hello Barkada. If Hello Barkada is merged, acquired, or sold, or in the event of a transfer of some or all of our assets, we may disclose or transfer personal and other information in connection with such transaction. Certain sections of our email newsletters contain small electronic files known as web beacons that permit us, for example, to count users who have visited, opened an email, and for other related website statistics. Hello Barkada uses the services of such third parties as Ko-Fi, Stripe, and MailChimp. We do not sell information to these third parties.
